Analysis - In 2020, then presidential candidate, Joe Biden promised to convene a global conclave on democracy in view of the rise of populism in the U.S. and around the world. In August 2021, the Biden administration followed through the promise by announcing the convening of the Summit for Democracy, which took place online from 9 to 10 December 2021.
